Walking Like Jesus: A Daily Devotional

"Walk in the Same Manner as He Walked"

1 John 2:6 (NASB)

"The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked."

Opening Reflection

It's one thing to call ourselves followers of Christ. It's another to actually walk like Him — to move through our days with His intentionality, His compassion, and His unwavering surrender to the Father. But what does that look like in the ordinary moments of life?

Step 1: Walk in Humility

"Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves."
— Philippians 2:3 (NASB)

Jesus — the King of kings — washed dirty feet. He touched lepers. He stopped for the one when crowds pressed in. Walking like Jesus means releasing the need to be seen, served, or celebrated. It means choosing the lower seat, the quieter act, the unnoticed kindness.

Today's step: Do one thing for someone else today that no one will know about.

Step 2: Walk in Obedience

"I can do nothing on My own. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of Him who sent Me."
— John 5:30 (NASB)

Jesus never acted independently of the Father. Every word, every miracle, every moment of silence was rooted in obedience. Walking like Jesus means pausing before we act — asking not "What do I want?" but "What does the Father say?"

Today's step: Before making a decision today, pause and pray: "Father, what is Your will here?"

Step 3: Walk in Compassion

"When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them and healed their sick."
— Matthew 14:14 (NASB)

Jesus was never too busy, too tired, or too important to be moved by the pain of others. Compassion wasn't a program He ran — it was the posture of His heart. To walk like Jesus is to let the needs of others actually move us, not just inform us.

Today's step: Look for someone around you who is hurting. Don't just notice — respond.

Step 4: Walk in the Word

"It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.'"
— Matthew 4:4 (NASB)

When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, He didn't rely on feelings or willpower — He stood on Scripture. Walking like Jesus means being so saturated in the Word that it becomes our first response, not our last resort.

Today's step: Memorize one verse this week. Let it be your anchor when pressure comes.

Step 5: Walk in Love

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another."
— John 13:34 (NASB)

This is the mark. Not our theology, not our church attendance, not our social media witness — but love. The kind that costs something. The kind that stays when it's inconvenient. The kind that looks like a cross.

Today's step: Choose to love someone today who hasn't made it easy.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I confess that I often walk in my own way — my own pace, my own agenda, my own strength. Teach me to walk as Jesus walked: humbly, obediently, compassionately, rooted in Your Word, and overflowing with love. Not for my glory, but for Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.
